Summer 2023 Class Schedule
LEGO Challenge
Class Description: Designed for students entering 3rd through 5th grades using the SPIKE Prime platform, students will experience an accelerated FIRST Lego League team experience. Students will learn basic robot building, game strategy, and the basics of coding, and much more.
Dates & Times:
- Session 1: June 12 – 16, 9:00am – 11:00am
- Session 2: June 26 – 30, 4:00pm – 6:00pm
- Session 3: July 17 – 21, 3:30pm – 5:30pm
- Session 4: July 31 – Aug 4, 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Grade Level: 3rd through 5th grades
Class Limit: 10 students

Kids Who Code
Class Description: Designed for students entering 2nd through 4th grades with little to no computer coding experience. This class will utilize the online platform SCRATCH to teach the basics of computer coding and build student confidence in problem-solving and computational thinking.
Dates & Times:
- Session 1: June 12 – 16, 2:30pm – 4:00pm (meets daily)
- Session 2: July 17 – 21, 9:00am – 10:30am (meets daily)
Grade Level: 2nd through 4th grades

Lego Adventure
Class Description: Designed for students entering 2nd and 3rd grades with little to no computer coding experience. This class will utilize the LEGO Education Spike Essentials platform. Students will complete daily projects that will have them building with LEGOs and automating those projects using block-based computer coding.

- Session 2: July 24 – 28, 9:00am – 10:30am (meets daily)

Introduction to CAD
Class Description: Designed for students in 6th through 12th grades with little to no experience with Computer Aided Design or Solidworks. Students will practice their skills, design parts and create three-dimensional assemblies.

- Session 1: June 19 – 23, 10:30am – 12:00pm(noon) (meets daily)
- Session 2: July 10 – 14, 4:30pm – 6:00pm (meets daily)

Introduction to Programming
Class Description: Designed for students from 6th grade to 12th grade with little to no background in coding, this class will introduce participants to the basics of programming using LabVIEW.
Dates & Times:
- Session 1: June 19 – 23, 4:30pm – 6:00pm (meets daily)
- Session 2: July 10 – 14, 10:30am – 12:00pm(noon) (meets daily)

Advanced CAD – Mechanical Design
Class Description: Designed for those with good knowledge of Solidworks, this class provides students with opportunities to use their CAD skillset to develop designs. Students will be asked to design for manufacturability, ease of assembly, robustness, and usability. As in all design tasks, emphasis will be placed on iterating a design to mature it to a final form.

- Session 1: July 31 – Aug 4, 10:30am – 12:30pm (meets daily)
Grade Level: 6th through 12th, students must have completed at least one Introduction to CAD class with INNOVATE Albion prior to taking this course.

Advanced Programming – Algorithms
Class Description: Designed for those with a good working knowledge of LabVIEW, this class provides students with hands-on experience in developing programs for a real-time control platform. In particular, this class will provide students with a 2-degree-of-freedom robotic arm which will allow students to explore various aspects of control theory, such as PID gain tuning, motion control, velocity following, and other complex control algorithms.

- Session 1: July 17 – 21, 10:30am – 12:30pm (meets daily)
Grade Level: 6th through 12th, students must have completed at least one Introduction to Programming class with INNOVATE Albion before taking this course.

Advanced Robotics
Class Description: Designed for students with a good working knowledge of Solidworks and LabView. This class will combine design, manufacturing and computer-coding and prepare students to be valuable assets to a FIRST Robotics Team during the upcoming season

- Session 1: Aug 7 – 11 10:30am – 12:30pm (meets daily)
Grade Level: 9th through 12th, students must have completed both Advanced CAD and Advanced Programming with INNOVATE Albion prior to taking this course.
